What is Critical Thinking?

Being capable of clear, reasonable thoughts and being able to see how concepts are related logically is known as critical thinking. Your capacity for reasoning must be used when performing critical thinking. Being an active learner as opposed to a passive talker of information is vital for a critical thinker. Instead of accepting ideas and presumptions at face value, critical thinkers vigorously challenge them. They are constantly willing to discover that the concepts, justifications, and conclusions do not fully capture the situation. Instead of relaying on gut instinct or perception, critical thinkers will discover, analyze and solve problems in a methodical manner.

Can Critical Thinking be Taught?

Yes, however there are certain limitations. Critical thinking is a complicated, higher order skill that is challenging to learn and even more challenging to apply across domains.

The Debate Between "Generalists" and "specifists"

Generalists: There are few fundamental abilities that make up critical thinking which can be systematically learned and used in all academic fields.

Specifists: critical thinking is usually contextual and closely related to the particular topic that one is interested in.

Bloom's Taxonomy

A collection of three hierarchical models known as Bloom's taxonomy is used to categorize educational learning objectives in to levels of complexity and specificity.

What is Expected from You?

Intra-Disciplinary

An intra-disciplinary approach involves working within the bounds of a singular discipline. While collaboration is relevant to intra disciplinary research, it is contingent on the extent of the research question posed.

Cross-Disciplinary

Cross disciplinary study involves approaching one discipline through the perspective of another.

Inter-Disciplinary

Inter disciplinary study is emerged as a result of problems that are too wide to be answered within the confines of a singular area of knowledge.

Multi-Disciplinary

A multi disciplinary approach extract knowledge from two or more disciplines, which is to say, two or more ways of thinking, or two or more areas of knowledge.

Trans-Disciplinary

Transformation and inclusion are key concepts when trying to understand trans disciplinary discourse. Trans disciplinarians take from all disciplines, with no hard lines to distinguish between what is academic and what is not.

Model to Generate Critical Thinking

Why Does Critical Thinking Matter?

Critical thinking abilities are crucial for employment success in many different carrier domains, including law, teaching, research, medicine and finance. It's a crucial component of any carrier where the objective is to derive knowledge without being biased, analyze the situation, come up with unique solutions to difficulties and solve problems creatively.

Making judgements that demand careful considerations is made easier by using critical thinking. Critical thinking assists someone in making important and life altering decisions, such as whether or not to change carriers. It motivates to do research and to value objective logic over your gut feeling.
